WWE continued teasing a mysterious new female character on Friday Night SmackDown. Last week’s vignette showcased this mystery woman in a fur coat and high heels.

This week, the camera rolled up to the legs and the bare back of the woman, as she was seen dressing up. As was obvious, the rumor mill was rampant with speculations on the identity of this new character.

Most fans believe that it’s none other than Carmella. ‘The Princess of Staten Island’ has been out of action for quite some time and it seems like WWE is looking to repackage her before she returns.

While some fans were really intrigued by the prospect, others weren’t so confident about Mella’s abilities to pull off this challenging peesona.

Is SmackDown mystery woman the new Emmalina – a diva in the Women’s era?

This is not the first time that WWE is trying out a more sensual character at a time when its women are known more for their athleticism. Few years back, WWE aired similar vignettes with Tenille Dashwood, known as Emma back then.

In all the vignettes, she showed off her attractive features while exuded overconfidence and a magnetic swagger. Unfortunately, the whole character got a SmackDown hacker treatment.

Each week, Emmalina’s debut was teased, but it was canceled at the last moment. Finally, someone backstage got cold feet and the entire story was axed. Unfortunately for Dashwood, she was released soon after.

There’s a clear cut lesson that we learn from this. WWE is not sure how they want to book a female character that’s closer to the Divas era. After the onset of the women’s revolution, they’ve paid more attention to how they book females.

Maybe, WWE can take some lessons from how IMPACT Wrestling booked Scarlett Bordeaux. Even though she had a character that rode heavily on how she looked, it never felt disrespectful or overdone.

Her brilliance in displaying the personal earned her a WWE contract and she is currently the valet for NXT’s Karrion Kross. If this mystery female character takes a similar route, we are in for some good storytelling.
