AEW employs a unique tactic in their weekly programming, as they name-drop WWE superstars during their shows. But the same is not true for WWE. But under Triple H’s era, this has changed. During the Survivor Series premium live event today, an AEW veteran, who is a former WWE superstar, was mentioned and given a surprising tribute. Let’s find out who the AEW veteran is.

Michael Cole ushers Chris Jericho’s name during Survivor Series

During the Gunther vs. The Miz match, WWE commentator Michael Cole mentioned Chris Jericho‘s name. The match was for the Intercontinental Championship, which prompted Cole to say that if ‘The A-Lister’ beats Gunther, he would go on to become a 9-time Intercontinental Champion, equaling the record of Chris Jericho.

Unfortunately, the challenger of the match couldn’t defeat ‘The Ring General’, so the record couldn’t be set. Interestingly, The Miz tapped out to the Walls of Jericho (the submission lock initiated by Gunther). Jericho wasn’t the only one who was mentioned during the premium live event on Saturday.

Who else was name-dropped at Survivor Series?

Survivor Series was full of surprises and one of the many surprises came in when Michael Cole mentioned many other names from WWE’s rival promotion. During the Miz vs. Gunther match, the former initiated a submission hold on the latter, called Figure Four.

Cole name-dropped Ric Flair (who now works for AEW) and stated that Miz learned the maneuver from ‘The Nature Boy’. In addition, while talking about the prestigious Intercontinental Championship, he mentioned former WWE superstar Edge aka Adam Copeland, who is also in AEW now.

In another match, he highlighted the debut of Sting (current AEW wrestler) in WWE at Survivor Series and also mentioned The Shield, which was a former WWE faction of Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose, also a current AEW star)with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.

A lot of AEW superstars’ names were mentioned, which is not a common sight in WWE. Whereas AEW has been called out and accused of using WWE superstars’ names to gain attention from the audience many times in the past. Earlier in the past, namedropping outsiders’ names were forbidden in the promotion. But under the Triple H era, things have changed.
