The WWE Hall of Fame ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper passed away on July 31, 2015. In the same year in August, Rousey defended her UFC bantamweight gold against Bethe Correia.
‘Rowdy’ won the fight via a stunning knockout in the very first round at UFC 190. She also won the ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for her victory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Following her huge win, Rousey paid tribute to Piper by saying some good words in the octagon interview with Joe Rogan. She said, “I just wanna say we just lost a really close friend, Rowdy Roddy Piper, who gave me permission to use his name as a fighter. So I am hoping my dad had a good time watching this today.”
Although Rousey has used Piper’s moniker, they don’t share any relationship between them. However, the six-time UFC champion has trained with Piper’s daughter at some point in her career.
It was one of the most important moments of Rousey’s MMA career as she defended her title for the sixth consecutive time. She also gave an earnest octagon interview, which almost made the long-time UFC commentator Rogan cry.

During her octagon interview, ‘Rowdy’ addressed her opponents to stop involving her family in the lead-up to her fights. After listening to her words, the JRE podcast host took a pause to hold back his tears.

Following the event, Rogan took to his official Twitter account and admitted that it was the first time he almost cried during an interview. He wrote, “That was the first time I ever almost cried while interviewing a fighter. @RondaRousey is something insanely special.”

However, his actions faced some harsh criticism from a few fans. Some even called him a ‘bi**h’ for crying. But The UFC commentator was unfazed by it.
Rogan is a true fan of the sport, who has been with the UFC for over two decades now. Therefore, moments like these bring tears to his eyes, which is a very basic human emotion.
