Phil Brooks a.k.a CM Punk is known as a man of many talents. The former AEW champion is also known for his time at UFC and for his commentary skills at the Caged Fight Fury Championship. However, what many fans are not aware of is that Punk has a long history with mixed martial arts. He made his UFC debut back in 2016, a couple of years after leaving WWE.

While his run at UFC was a short one, it looks like he is still cherishing those days. Punk recently shared a throwback photo on his social media showing off his unusual training partner from the past.

CM Punk’s uncanny sparring partner

Ryan Cafaro, known as a featherweight mixed martial artist and striking coach recently posted a picture from the past on his Instagram. He wrote, “Throwback to working @cmpunk when he was training for his UFC debut.” To this, the Second City Saint replied, “Me working with a 14-year-old @ryancafaromma.” Calling him a 14-year-old might be an inside joke as Caffaro was born in 1989 and might be somewhere in his late 20s during that time.

The original picture dates back to 2017. It is from the Rofou Sports Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is run by former mixed martial artists Duke RoufusScott Joffe, and former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis.

In the original 2017 picture, Cafaro had written, Last full day in Milwaukee at #roufousport tomorrow! Glad I got to train and exchange face punches with  @CMPunk.”

While his debut was much celebrated, CM Punk’s UFC career was something that many fans consider a disappointment.

Punk’s fabled UFC Career

Punk was signed by UFC in 2014 under the welterweight category. He represented the Rofou Sports Academy and fought with an orthodox stance. While he was signed in 2014, he fought his first match in 2016 against Mickey Gall at UFC 203. Unfortunately for the 45-year-old star, his first match in the octagon resulted in a loss.

However, two years later, he decided to give his everything for his second match against Mike Jackson at UFC 225. However, luck was not on his side and his second bout also resulted in a loss. While his first match resulted in a submission, his second match was declared a no-contest by the officials. Following the two losses, Punk decided to part ways with UFC as he felt he was not suited for the sport. However, fans could agree that when it comes to mic skills, no one can beat the Straight Edge Survivor. Do you think Punk’s second run with WWE will not be as dissatisfying as his UFC career?
