Former India captain MS Dhoni has been in the news for quite some times now – be it for his retirement speculations or his long absence from the circuit. However, he has made himself out of the game since India’s exit in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. While Dhoni is busy off the field, former captain Kapil Dev said Dhoni’s comeback will be tough.
Kapil Dev on MS Dhoni
“If you haven’t played cricket for so long then I don’t think you can come back from anywhere. But he still has IPL, his form there’ll be important and selectors should see what is best for the country. Dhoni has done a lot for the country but when you don’t play for 6-7 months, you leave a doubt in everyone’s mind. And then that creates a lot of discussions which shouldn’t happen,” Kapil was quoted as saying by ABP News.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar had also raised questions over Dhoni’s future. Since he has made himself away from the game for so long and there is no news of his return as well. He missed the home series against West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and recently Australia as well. However, he started preparation for the upcoming IPL recently with Jharkhand’s Ranji team. His fluent batting impressed the coach also.
India head coach Ravi Shastri has also commented on the future of Dhoni. He said Dhoni’s future depends on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Moreover, the head coach of Indian team also said Dhoni may clear the air on his retirement after IPL.
Shastri also said that the former captain knows pretty well what to do and when. He also gave the example of his retirement from test cricket as he is not someone “who will impose on himself”. Even not only fans but his teammates are also missing him as Yuzvendra Chahal shared in his latest episode of Chahal TV.
