India’s 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh took a fun dig at India’s no. 4 misery after another former player Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter and backed talented Sanju Samson for the no. 4 position in the line up in One Day International matches. Harbhajan Singh’s tweet came after Sanju Samson smashed a 48-ball 91 in India A’s 36-run victory over South Africa A. However, he came to bat at No. 3.

“Why not Sanju Samson at number 4 in ODI.. with good technique and good head on his shoulders.. well played today anyways against SA A,” Harbhajan Singh expressed in a tweet.

However, the things took a new turn when his long-time former teammate, Yuvraj Singh replied to his tweet.

“Top order is very strong bro they don’t need no. 4 batsman.” He tweeted it with a laughing emoticon.

The number 4 position is still a question for India’s line up. Many batsmen tried their hands at that place but everyone failed to stay for a long time. Although Ambati Rayudu was the first choice for that position, a couple of bad performances showed him axed from the squad. At the ICC World Cup in May, KL Rahul and Vijay Shankar had also failed to do well and India’s struggle to find the right batsman in that place is still going on.

However, Sanju Samson also replied to the tweet with a laugh.

As far as the longer format’s concern, India didn’t face the problem yet as Virat Kohli bats at this position. But the opening slots have been a worry for India in Tests. As Prithvi Shaw suspended, India have only two openers – KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.  They opened in the Test series against the West Indies. While Agarwal tried to do well, KL Rahul failed to impress.

Rahul managed scores of 44, 38, 13 and 6 in four innings and failed to convert the starts into a big score in the first Test in Antigua. He didn’t get a good start in the second Test in Jamaica. He hasn’t even scored a 50+ score since his 149 against England at the Oval 12 innings back. It will be interesting to see what steps the team management would take in the next series against South Africa.
