Just when all seemed fine with the US Open 2020 bio-secure bubble, Benoit Paire tested positive for the Coronavirus bug just a day before the start of the tournament. Doubles star Noah Rubin suggested that the organizer’s response has been chaotic and slammed the bubble protocols. Now, the World No. 7, Alexander Zverev, has come out with his displeasure as well.

Zverev feels that the US Open 2020 organizers lacked effective communication with the players. Rubin had also revealed that as many as 11 players came in close contact with Paire.

Alexander Zverev slams the lack of communication

Alexander Zverev expressed that there is unrest among many players as they found out about it on Twitter and not from the organizer. “The US Open did not do the best job of informing us. We learned the whole situation with Benoit Paire through the media, like everyone else,” Zverev said after his first-round win on Monday.

Zverev doubled down on the importance of informing the players ahead of anyone else in such a situation. We have seen Benoit the whole time. As players, we also have to know who was with whom,” Zverev added.

Zverev revealed that he crossed paths with Paire once in an elevator. “But other players were with him and they weren’t so happy that they found out about it on Twitter,” the German continued.

Speaking about the same, Rubin also highlighted concerns with the bubble at US Open 2020. He said that the organizers contradicted their own stance on this situation.

A few days ago, Guido Pella and Hugo Dellien were removed from the Western and Southern Open and asked to isolate after their trainer tested positive.

There is no communication yet about the fate of the 11 players who came in close contact with Paire. However, their movements have been restricted within the bubble. They are not allowed to use certain common areas. Paire himself accused the US Open 2020 bubble, calling it ‘fake’.

Meanwhile, the event kicked off on Monday. Alexander Zverev survived a tough test in the first round against former finalist Kevin Anderson.
