There have been instances when Sevy has underwhelmed New York. The man who has once been a glorious and mighty name in the Bronx was soon to fall prey to his injuries; particularly his 70th pitch of 2023. Nevertheless, he seems to have found his footing in 2024, just in a different uniform.

Luis Severino’s Latest News

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, right-hander Luis Severino is getting close to signing a contract with the Mets. Per the ESPN sources, the two parties are close to signing a $13 million, one-year contract. Jeff Passan mentions $2MM in performance bonuses, the specifics of which are kept under wraps for now. With that, it’s worth looking at what led to this move.

Severino is a wild card in this winter’s free agent market; he turns 30 in February. He did look like one of the top pitchers in the major leagues once. But over the last five years, he has mostly been injured or ineffective.

In 2017 and 2018, he made 63 starts and threw 384 2/3 innings with an earned run average of 3.18. He kept 45.8% of balls in play on the ground, struck out 28.8% of batters he faced, and only 6.2% of them were walked. With that background, his moving out seemed imminent. Sevy’s fans have reacted in the most endearing way to this news.
