Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov has responded to Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson’s challenge. The newly crowned ONE Flyweight World Champion mentioned recently that he believes Akhmetov is next in line for a shot at the belt.

Kairat Akhmetov responded to Demetrious Johnson’s remarks

“Johnson’s title won’t play a big role. I’m not made of dough either. [I’m] a former ONE World Champion, now I have a winning streak of five fights, and I’m second in the rankings,” the 34-year-old said.

In an interview with ONE last week, Johnson shared that he would love to square off against Akhmetov as he feels the Kazakhstani fighter deserves a shot at the ONE Flyweight World Title due to his string of wins.

“Mad Respect” – Demetrious Johnson Fearlessly Accepts #2-Ranked Contender as Next Rival for ONE Championship Gold

The #2-ranked contender echoed a similar sentiment, adding that it will be an absolute honor to share the Circle with the MMA GOAT.

“I have a chance. This is MMA, where one punch can decide the outcome of a fight. I believe in myself and in my victory,” Akhmetov offered.

“This is my dream fight, and I don’t want to miss the chance to make myself known to the whole world.”

Needless to say, a battle between both men should be fireworks.

“The Kazakh’s” improved striking and robust base on the canvas has seen him claim victories over Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, Danny “The King” Kingad, and Reece “Lightning” McLaren — all top-five flyweights.

Moreover, the Almaty resident has been on a five-match winning streak since his last defeat to Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio in January 2018.

In his most recent outing, the AMC Pankration and Evolve MMA representative took out Moraes with a stunning knee to the face to avenge his defeat and become the first man to finish the Brazilian, along the way claiming the ONE Flyweight World Title.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but Akhmetov hopes to see his name selected by ONE matchmakers for “Mighty Mouse’s” first world title defense inside the Circle.
