After all the run-ins with the weather yesterday which resulted in Free Practice 2 getting cancelled, FP3 and Qualifying went ahead as scheduled. It was a very topsy turvy qualifying but Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton endured to score a brilliant pole position with a time of 1:31.678. Behind him, in a repeat of the Australian GP top 4, were Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and Vettel’s teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Q1 finishes and we lose Stoffel Vandoorne, Romain Grosjean, Jolyon Palmer, Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon

Verstappen was the biggest casualty of the first knock-out session but fans weren’t too fazed

He was not the only one to suffer though, Romain Grosjean spun on the main straight but stayed away from the wall. The same could not be said for Sauber rookie Antonio Giovinazzi who was still filling in for Pascal Wehrlein.
