A shot that is etched in the memories of every Indian cricket fan, a shot that brought glory after 28 years, a shot which drove us all into ecstasy, a shot after which Wankhede went berserk was the winning shot by MS Dhoni in the final of 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup match. It was one tightly contested match between India and Sri Lanka. India had a stiff task on their hands as they chased a victory target of 275 against Sri Lanka. Dhoni sealed the match hitting a six off Nuwan Kulasekara, when only 4 runs were required off 11 balls. It was fitting that the Indian captain scored the winning runs.

After the presentation, the team carried Sachin Tendulkar on a victory lap around the stadium. The Indian players dedicated their victory to Tendulkar. Virat Kohli’s words touched the crowd, “This World Cup goes out to all the people of India who have come out and supported us. He (Tendulkar) carried the burden of the nation for 21 years, so it is time we carried him on our shoulders.”
