Former World No. 3 Elina Svitolina was in a relationship with French tennis player Gael Monfils. The pair was termed as a ‘power couple’ in the tennis world. They began dating in 2019, during the Australian Open and used to accompany each other for their respective matches on Tour.

Elina Svitolina ended her relationship with Monfils. The pair was dating for two years but decided to take a break to focus on their respective careers. After revealing this disappointing news, they deleted their joint account on Instagram,’G.E.M.S Life’.

Elina Svitolina posts an amusing Instagram Reel

Recently, the Ukrainian star put up a clip on Instagram with a rap song of American music mogul Eminem being played in the background. She answered a few queries but only via facial expressions.

One such topic was about dating an athlete. She was quick to shake her head in refusal. Surprisingly, her ex-boyfriend, Gael Monfils came across the clip and he shared a mutual opinion with his former girlfriend, commenting, “100% hahaha 🤣🤣 ❤️ (XV)(III)”  

At the Australian Open this year, Monfils crashed out in the opening round. After the match, he shed a few tears during the post-match press conference. It’s been over a year since the Frenchman won a competitive match.

After Elina’s opening round win in Melbourne, she wrote ‘Gael’ on the camera and blew a kiss to show him some support in a difficult phase in his career.

A slow start to the season

At the first Grand Slam event of the year, Svitolina registered impressive wins before going down to American tennis player Jessica Pegula. It was not her best performance at the event. Previously, in 2018 and 2019, she had reached the quarterfinal stage of the tournament which remains her best showing there yet.

Recently, Svitolina competed at the WTA Qatar Open and lost in the quarterfinal. After that, she featured at the WTA Dubai Tennis Championships and her journey came to an end in the round of 32. At the moment, she is competing at the Miami Open.

On the other hand, Gael has not played a competitive match since his exit at the Australian Open.
