2022 Puntacana Championship: Prize Money Breakdown and Winner’s Payout

Over the course of one season, the PGA Tour has multiple events lined up. While most of them are held in the USA, some are played in different locations like Japan. The Corales Puntacana Championship is one of the tournaments in the PGA Tour’s lineup that is held internationally in the Dominican Republic.

Taking place after the Players, the event brings along its own vibe and entertainment.

Where does the event take place?

The event is scheduled at the Puntacana Resort and Club, which is located along the east coast in La Altagracia. This year, they will be hosting the fifth edition of the Puntacana Championship. The resort boasts an exclusive 18-hole course, which consists of natural cliffs and quarries.

Over 120 players take the field at the event, which also provides an opportunity to win ample FedEx Cup points.

The club and PGA Tour have also extended their contract for four more years.

“The PGA TOUR and our members and allies are delighted to return to Puntacana Resort & Club. After a successful stint with the Korn Ferry Tour, the tournament was elevated to a PGA TOUR events in 2018,” said PGA Tour’s President Tyler Dennis. “The tournament continued to grow and prosper to make a lasting impact in the community. We look forward to many more years of great competition and showcasing the beauty of the Dominican Republic to our fans around the world”.

Grupo Puntacana’s CEO Frank Elias Rainieri also spoke about the extension. Now, they can promote the Dominican Republic as a leading golf tourism destination.

The exclusive course itself was opened in 2010 and features six Caribbean Oceanside holes. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course is rated as one of the World’s Best Golf Experiences. However, the place also has a residential community that provides luxury homes along with estates looking out on the golf course.

The purse money of the tournament

The total prize purse for the winner is $3.7 million, with the winner’s share amounting to $666,000. Like most tournaments, the Puntanaca Championship offers various other perks and benefits on securing a victory.

The winner takes home 300 FedEx Cup points, 24 Official World Golf Rankings, along with a two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour. They will also win berths on the 2022 Masters, PGA Championship, and the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
