23XI Racing Handed Big Boost as StarCom Racing Sells its Cup Series Charter

Recently, news broke that the StarCom Racing team has sold its Cup Series charter. With a number of teams hunting for a new charter, this is a massive boost for their hopes. One team that is actively seeking a charter is 23XI Racing, who want to field a second car. Of course, this also means that Quin Houff will be left on the lurch and hunting for a new seat in 2022.
In all honesty, the 23XI Racing team shot themselves in the foot when they announced Kurt Busch as the second driver. This is because, they confirmed his appointment without securing his charter first. On the bright side, StarCom’s sale could be just the impetus needed, as long as they can swoop in and snatch the sale.
However, they will have to fend off interest from other parties who want a second Cup charter. There were reports that Spire Motorsports were eyeing the situation, though the team insisted that there was no news yet.

What does this mean for 23XI Racing and its desire to field a second car?
Admittedly, there will be a race between 23XI Racing and Spire Motorsports for the charter. Although the latter already owns three Cup charters, they sold two to Kaulig Racing for the 2022 Cup season. Both outfits have an equally strong stake, so it is just a matter of who gets their oar in first and who has the better offer.
Without a doubt, 23XI Racing is a tempting prospect, due to its ownership. Cup Series star Denny Hamlin co-owns the outfit with NBA legend, Michael Jordan. In addition to that, they also have Bubba Wallace in the #23 car and them Kurt Busch will soon join in the #45 car.
