Goalkeepers have often proved to be the best signings in transfer window as they have great value for money. They also have a loner career and, more often than not, are injury free. So here are 5 most significant transfer moves involving goalkeepers that might happen.

1. David de Gea – From Manchester United to Real Madrid

One of the longest saga in this transfer window is definitely David de Gea’s move to Real Madrid. Several reports claim that the Spaniard was forcing his move to the Los Blancos, and many times the move was reportedly complete.

The Spaniard had a fantastic season at Old Trafford last season, making crucial saves in many matches, sparing the blushes of a below par defense.

De Gea was also spotted in Madrid many times, though the shot-stopper insisted that he was only holidaying in his native country. At one point images surfaced of de Gea’s house on sale in Manchester.

But almost more than a month after the rumors began, de Gea is still training with United. Demands made by United have been cited as one of the possible reasons, with reports claiming that the English Club wanted Sergio Ramos in exchange.

Whatever the situation is, the move seems imminent as United have been linked with many possible substitutes and departure of Casillas is all but done in Spain.

2.Iker Casillas – From Real Madrid to Porto

Iker Casillas is set to leave Real Madrid, a fact that only a few of us thought would be possible. But after having three difficult seasons, it looks like the end of a glittering career for him at the Bernabéu.

It all began when Jose Mourinho benched the Spaniard and placed Diego Lopez as the first choice keeper. Though Carlo Ancelloti restored Casillas between the sticks, his performances never touched the same heights again. He was even booed by some sections of the fans at Bernabéu.

Now since David de Gea is heavily linked with the Los Blancos, Casillas has picked the Portuguese club Porto to be his next club.
The move was confirmed by Casillas’ own manager and could be announced soon.

The transfer seems a good option for the keeper as he is too good to be benched, but Santiago Bernabéu will surely miss their ‘San Iker’.

Real Madrid also have Costa Rican Keylor Navas in their ranks.

3.Victor Vlades – From Manchester United to Antalyaspor

Turkish club Antalyaspor claim they are closing in on a deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

After making just 2 appearances in his six months at Old Trafford, Valdes may be on his way out.

Valdes, who signed for the English club in January on a free-transfer only started in the last game of the season in a 0-0 draw against Hull City and still has one year left in his contract.

“He wants to leave Manchester United,” Antalyaspor president Gultekin Gencer told Eurosport, in quotes translated by Turkish-football.com. “We have made an official bid. I believe it will be completed within a couple of days.”

If the deal goes through, it will be a great financial masterclass by Van Gaal but the fact that United’s first choice keeper David de Gea’s future is uncertain may worry some fans.

Anders Lindegaard is the current third choice keeper at the club.

4.David Ospina — From Arsenal to Everton

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has himself described a move to Everton as a ‘great possibility’.
Arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea means that Ospina will lose his number one spot at the London club.

But after a fine performance in the Copa America for Columbia, Ospina once again reminded why he was signed by Arsene Wenger in the first place and reports claim that Everton has bid for the 26-year old.

Ospina insists he is pleased with the opportunity to train alongside Cech – even if it puts his starting place out of question.

‘Now an excellent keeper has arrived who I admire,’ he added. ‘During my holidays I’m analysing a lot of things and then I’ll have a conversation with the manager.

‘For me it will be an honour to play along with a keeper with that experience. A goalkeeper keeps learning every day.’

Asked about interest from the Toffees, Ospina told as: ‘They are a very competitive team, which showed significant things during the last season.

‘With a good manager and they play good football, it is a team to take into account and a great possibility.’

If the deal goes through, it can be a great move for the Mersyside club as Ospina, still only 26, is in form of his life.

5.Asmir Begović – From Stoke City to Chelsea

Chelsea are set to complete a £8m signing of Asmir Begovic from Stoke City, who will act as a back-up to first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

After Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal was made official, Chelsea has pursued the 28-year old. And now after Shay Given has joined Stoke City on a two-year contract, the move seems all but done.

Begovic refused to sign a new contract to indicate his desire to join the Premier League champions and has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

The Bosnian will back Courtois at Stamford Bridge. Standing at 6 feet and 4 inches tall, Begovic has had a decent career in the Premier League, appearing 160 times for Stoke and famously scoring from his own half against Southampton.

The move will ensure that if Courtois gets injured, Chelsea will have more than a capable goalkeeper between the sticks as they look to defend their title.
