Saturday’s 1-0 win away to Burnley saw Arsenal record their eighth consecutive Premier League win, which no other team has achieved this season – a respectable feat.

It was hoped that this run would result in a title charge, but a second place finished looks more realistic.

A few players have become crucial to the team over the past few months and almost reinvented themselves in order to perform to Arsene Wenger’s standards

Here are six players who have been vital to Arsenal’s winning run.

1. David Ospina

Ospina has kept six clean sheets since being brought in for the error-prone Wojciech Szczesny in January and it is no coincidence to see the defensive security return to the side. A competent keeper spreads calm through his back four and that is currently evident.

2. Hector Bellerin

The fact that Mathieu Debuchy faces a fight to reclaim his right-back slot shows the rise to prominence from the former Barcelona academy product. Going forward is undoubtedly his strength, but the defensive performances he’s put in shows his all-round ability.

3. Nacho Monreal

His period at the heart of the back four seems to have aided him upon returning to full-back. Monreal’s defensive aggression has been a real feature of Arsenal’s displays and the likes of Lazar Markovic and Angel di Maria have been kept firmly in his back pocket in recent weeks.

4. Francis Coquelin

Arguably Arsenal’s first name on the team sheet, Coquelin has been central to the Gunners recent run, providing perfect security for the back four and the attacking talent in front of him.

5. Mesut Ozil

Four assists and three goals in his last nine league games, Ozil is in his best form since the £42.4m move from Real Madrid in 2013. Played centrally after a spell out wide, the World Cup winner continuously picks out the right pass in a devastating Arsenal attack.

6. Olivier Giroud

Goals win games and in that regard, Giroud has 10 in his last 11 appearances to solidify his status among the elite strikers in the Premier League. Scoring in the big games was something the Frenchman was reproached about which has been emphatically answered – as Liverpool and Manchester City found out.
