Trayvon Bromell came to the world’s attention once again as he became the fastest man in 2021. He clocked an impressive time of 9.76 seconds in Nairobi in September.
And even though he did not make it to the finals of Tokyo 2020, he still did a really great job, considering he had come fresh out of a severe injury then.

Recently, Bromell revealed how much moral support he received from Jamaican track legends Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake after his injuries, which helped him make a comeback.
The true spirit of sportsmanship
Leading up to the 2016 Olympic Games, Bromell suffered a severe Achilles injury. This was devastating for the athlete, as he left the stadium in a wheelchair.
Notably, 5 years later, Bromell made a comeback for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He performed quite well in the qualifying rounds, but could not make it to the finals, sadly. Understandably, this led to him having a breakdown.
However, that’s when Jamaican athlete Yohan Blake stepped up and consoled Bromell. It meant a lot for Bromell that Blake went out of his way to comfort his competitor.
“It?s been humbling and an honor for them to even support me and they?ve helped me through hard times. After the Games, Yohan came and sat down with me in Tokyo and told me how proud he was of my comeback,” said Bromell.
He added that he shares a beautiful connection with Jamaica and its athletes. He revealed that the journey of coming back has been hard, and both Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake have helped him through it.
“I?ve got a real strong connection with both Usain and Yohan,? said the US Sprinter. ?I?ve talked to both of them during this process when I?ve been coming back.”
Both Bolt and Blake have displayed the spirit of sportsmanship by helping a fellow competitor in his time of need. Doing so, they set an example for others to follow, while reminding us once again what sport is all about.
