After months of speculation, it was confirmed that the 2020 US Open would be taking place. In addition to all of that, the ATP came out with a plan to schedule the remaining tournaments of 2020 which was amazing. All of this possible with a zoom call held by the ATP with all the players. Unfortunately, Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic or the ‘Big 3’ were not present for the call which was not a good sign according to Dirk Hordoff. Check out what he said.

Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic Were Not on the Zoom Call

Dirk Hordoff is the Vice President of the German Tennis Federation. He was the one correctly predicted the cancellation of the 3rd Grand Slam of the year – the Wimbledon.

In a recent interview, he talked about the zoom call that made it possible for the ATP Tour to resume. More specifically, he talked about why many players were missing from the call. Do note that the transcript has been translated to English. He said,

“A conference on Zoom with four hundred people is not easy. Especially if it’s the first time you’ve heard these people since stopping. Overall, I understand the position of the players perfectly and I think ATP could have done better with the communications side. Especially in such situations. I also believe that the absence of Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal was not a good sign.”

The reason for why he believes that the absence of the ‘Big 3’ was a bad sign is probably because it signaled that they had given up on the resumption of the Tennis Tour. Rafael Nadal had already made it incredibly clear that he had lost hope for tennis in 2020 and was looking to play in 2021.

The good thing is that he was wrong and tennis is returning with an incredibly grueling schedule for the remaining tournaments. Roger Federer has already ended his 2020 season due to injury but hopefully, we can see Djokovic and Nadal have some amazing battles in the remainder of 2020.
