In what will be music to the ears of all video games and wrestling aficionados, AEW has finally come out with their own video game, in collaboration with Yukes Games. The Japanese video game developer was the creator of WWE’s games, up till WWE 2K19. The new offering is simply called AEW Games.

AEW unveils AEW Games

The news was announced on November 10, 2020, by Kenny Omega on YouTube. He talked about AEW became one of the most revolutionary companies in the world. He described AEW’s journey through Double or Nothing, the first episode of Dynamite on TNT, and then the global pandemic.

“Time and time again we have made history, and tonight we will rewrite history, and make history together,” said Omega. Then he played the much-awaited trailer to AEW Games.

The trailer shows Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho, the most iconic wrestlers in the world, battling it out in the ring. Both men counter their signature moves, Jericho escaping the One-Winged Angel and Omega ducking the Judas Effect. They both arrive at a stalemate before the trailer takes a turn for the better.

Out goes Jericho, and in comes AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida. This becomes the AEW Games’ ultimate selling point. Intergender wrestling is more or less absent from television, and WWE’s games never had the feature.

Intergender wrestling will be a feature

Shida smashes Kenny with the Falcon Arrow and the running knee strike. It made perfect sense for Shida to be in the trailer. She is the best women’s wrestler in the world and the face of AEW’s women’s division. She is the most dominant female athlete in the world, second maybe to NXT’s Io Shirai.

The trailer also features two mysterious figures hitting another mysterious figure with the Meltzer Driver, with Excalibur’s voice resonating in the background. This could only mean one thing: The Young Bucks.

The Young Bucks will finally be making an appearance in a video game, which means gamers can execute their eye-popping offense on their consoles.

More games and apps unveiled by AEW roster members

Kenny gets chucked off stage by referee Aubrey Edwards, who announces the brand new AEW mobile game. AEW Elite General Manager allows you to manage your own favorite wrestlers and do the booking for them. Dr. Britt Baker DMD then walked out to unveil the brand new AEW Games merch.

Cody Rhodes then walked out to the chagrin of the other people on stage and unveiled the upcoming AEW Casino poker game. This kept with the Double or Nothing theme. Even the Steve Jobs cosplay by the wrestlers (and Aubrey) was more than well-received. This is something quite out of the box, but something to look forward to, given how enthusiastic AEW is about this expansion.

These games are all absolutely fantastic news, in terms of the expansion of AEW into new markets. With Kenny Omega being an avid gamer and a cornerstone of the company, AEW has almost guaranteed success with the launch of AEW Games.
