Professional wrestlers making the journey from entertainment to fighting are rare but not unheard of. Some examples that come to mind are Brock Lesnar and CM Punk. Now a former WWE star and current AEW wrestler, Tay Conti, has made a rather surprising challenge that caught the attention of the wrestling and MMA world.

Conti tweeted, “Give me a MMA challenge please …”

The 25-year-old wrestler has a background in judo and may hold her own in a fight. However, she must trudge on as a wrestler and try to impress the AEW top-brass.

She never impressed the powers in the WWE to earn a move to Raw or SmackDown. Conti remained on NXT for three years until she was let go earlier this year. She signed with the AEW promotion and debuted in short order.

One of her AEW rivals Ivelisse got tagged by a fan in the “MMA challenge” tweet. She provided a reply indicating that Conti has better not even think about fighting her. Ivelisse’s team beat Conti’s team to crush her hopes of winning the AEW women’s tag team cup.

Later, Angela Magana, a former UFC fighter tweeted, “Uh Vai Morrer.”

Based on Conti’s reply, “Let’s do it?” it seems like the fighter has accepted the challenge.

Callouts and banter exist between combat sports athletes. However, it seems unlikely that Conti will ever get into a real fight as long as she is on the books at AEW.

Conti has time on her side and could explore a move to mixed martial arts after her AEW contract ends. However, she may face a challenge. This is because, in wrestling, superstars are conditioned to keep their punches in check and attack carefully.

What do you make of the surprising challenge? Will AEW take it seriously and set up a program against Magana? Could this be the setup to ‘Your Majesty’ making an AEW debut? The possibilities are endless.
