In a backstage segment on this week’s AEW Dynamite, a reporter approached Jericho to know if The Inner Circle would accept The Pinnacle’s Stadium Stampede challenge for AEW Double or Nothing 2021. Jericho stopped the reporter and said he needed to wait like everyone else, but he doesn’t want to make a man of 1,000 holds, Dean Malenko, angry.

The reporter backed off, but Malenko reminded Chris Jericho that he has four more than him. This was a good reminder for fans that Jericho is a man with 1,004 holds. Even the caption to the tweet talks about a combined hold of 2,004.

Chris Jericho assigned the name to himself

Jericho introduced himself as “The Man of 1,004 Holds” when he was in a feud with Dean Malenko on WCW Nitro. By then, Malenko already had 1,000 holds, and Jericho wanted to outdo him.

He cut a promo where he listed it down. WCW focused this segment completely on Jericho bragging about himself, and it continues to be one of the best ones he’s cut.

The Inner Circle will face The Pinnacle again

The Inner Circle lost their match against The Pinnacle at AEW Blood and Guts. The members of The Inner Circle surrendered to MJF when he threatened to drop Jericho from the roof of the steel cage.

MJF dropped him anyway. To seek revenge, Jericho returned at the following episode, and with help from The Inner Circle, he sprayed bubbly on The Pinnacle.

They demanded a rematch, but MJF had an interesting stipulation to add to the rematch. The Pinnacle offered a rematch for Stadium Stampede, but if The Inner Circle lost, they would need to end their run as a faction.

Chris Jericho accepted this stipulation and confirmed the rematch. If they lose, it’ll be a huge push for MJF in AEW.

Previously, Jericho had said MJF wanted to take his position without putting in the effort. If The Pinnacle wins, this will become a reality.
