This week’s AEW Dynamite: Homecoming from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida had a rather bizarre ending, leaving everyone in shock. After the main event between Cody Rhodes and Malakai Black, Cody seemed emotional following his loss and took off one of his boots, signaling his retirement from the sport.

As he was addressing the crowd with tears in his eyes, Black again re-appeared inside the ring and attacked Cody with a crutch before finally leaving the arena.

Following his actions, Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes took to Twitter and cussed out Malakai for his cowardly act on Cody.

Malakai Black made his AEW in-ring debut in dominant fashion. And to say that he put up a dominating fight would be an understatement. From the get-go, Black made it his sole purpose of humiliating and hurting Cody Rhodes. And yes, that’s what he did.

He hit Cody with lefts and rights and toyed with him the whole time. The two had been battling outside the ring for the last month, and Cody wanted to put the matter to rest but it didn’t work out his way.

Fans speculated that it was the humiliation during the match that Cody couldn’t bear and once the fight was over, he quickly grabbed the mic and thanked the fans for supporting him throughout.

Cody was not done talking before Black hit him with a crutch leaving him helpless inside the ring. His wife Brandi Rhodes took to Twitter and showed her rage towards Black’s cheap shot during his husband’s “supposed” goodbye speech.

Will Malakai Black and Cody Rhodes meet again in AEW?

It seemed like Cody was just about to officially announce his retirement from pro-wrestling before Black interfered. However, when the show went off the air, Cody threw his other wrestling boot before making his way out.

As noted earlier, Cody didn’t say the word “retirement.” However, Black’s actions appear to set up another match with Rhodes down the road.

Interestingly, this narrative seems rather similar to when late Brodie Lee squashed Cody Rhodes in a matter of minutes. This eventually led to Cody returning a few months later for revenge.

We will have to wait for the next week’s Dynamite episode and possibly hear the response from Cody.
