Christian Cage Steals the Show in AEW In-Ring Debut

This year started off with a pleasant surprise as Christian Cage made his in-ring return at the 2021 Royal Rumble. However, he didn’t stay in WWE and signed with Tony Khan’s AEW. ‘Captain Charisma’ made his AEW in-ring debut against Frankie Kazarian tonight, and it’s safe to say he hasn’t missed a step!

Christian Cage made his way to the ring in his iconic tights, followed by Kazarian. Both men got into some chain wrestling and then transitioned into trading submissions. Kaz even took the action outside the ring, but a right hand from Christian brought him to his senses.

The match wasn’t just a match. Both Kaz and Christian were telling a story in the ring. Kaz was being the overly confident friend, and Cage got back at him with a right hand.

Kazarian dominated the first half of the match before Christian got into his groove. Sadly, Kaz was one step ahead every time.

The former AEW World Tag Team Champion took it to the extremes as well! He hit Christian Cage with a Flex Capacitor (aka Spanish Fly) off the top rope but only got a near fall! Christian went for the Killswitch/Unprettier several times but never got successful.

The momentum of the match changed when Kazarian missed a springboard leg drop on Cage. ‘Captain Charisma’ quickly stunned him. This allowed him to hit a Frog Splash on Kazarian, only for a near fall! Both men laid in the ring catching their breaths as the crowd chanted, “This is awesome!”

In the closing moments of the match, Christian went for a Killswitch on Kaz, but he shoved him into the ropes and attempted a crossface chicken wing! Christian Cage rolled through, Kaz came storming towards him; Cage sidestepped, sending Kaz straight into the steel ring post.

Christian Cage then sealed the deal with a Killswitch on Kazarian in the middle of the ring! Kazarian versus Christian was undoubtedly a great match, and both men, especially Christian, did a terrific job. No one would even believe Christian had ring rust!

With his in-ring debut off the cards, what could be next for ‘Captain Charisma’ in AEW? He has vowed to climb the ranks and challenge for Kenny Omega‘s AEW World Championship. Will he do it at Double or Nothing in May? We must wait to find out.
