Cody Rhodes has been missing from AEW television for over a month. He was last seen in a TNT Championship match with the hideous Brodie Lee.

However, he made a stunning return on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite. In fact, it was one of the most well-executed returns in quite some time.

There was smoke, there was fire, and there was pure sadism. The second he stepped on the ramp leading to the ring, he started showing his “new sadistic side.”

On top of that, the American Nightmare returned with black hair this time, which probably indicates the rise of a new character. Nevertheless, his grand comeback is evidence enough that he is not the same Cody Rhodes that once walked the AEW arena.

Overall, it was a great segment. From the beginning to the end, music and other aspects considered, everything aligned perfectly with the way Rhodes presented himself.

The very fact that he took the fight to Dark Order instead of waiting for it to come to him speaks volumes about how prepared he is to take on anyone who dares to cross his path.

In fact, when Lee took over as the TNT Champion, The Dark Order maliciously attacked The Nightmare family while Rhodes was unconscious. Therefore, the former champion will now be on a redemption arc.

Interestingly, Rhodes had teased his return before making his comeback. The ones who picked up on it already had a clue about what was going down at AEW Dynamite. However, while he may have dropped the ball about the return, nobody expected the return happening the way it did.

Brodie Lee reacts to the return of Cody Rhodes

Brodie Lee was left standing with an expression of absolute shock on his face. Even though he fled from ringside before Rhodes could get a hand on him, the ‘Exalted One’ was furious.

Lee called out Rhodes for the audacity of his return. According to Lee, Rhodes shouldn’t have returned by attacking The Dark Order. Additionally, he made it loud and clear that after being gone for five weeks when Lee was putting in the work, his return was nothing short of cowardice.

Lastly, Lee affirmed that sooner or later, he will get his hand on Rhodes. Once he does that, it will be the end of the ‘American Nightmare.’

There is no doubt that AEW will build on this storyline. How they go about it is a story for another time. For now, The ‘American Nightmare’ is back, spreading horror throughout town!
