Chris Jericho has received a new challenger, but this one is unlike any he’s ever faced before. ONE Championship’s Vitor Belfort has laid down the challenge for the former AEW Champion. Belfort spoke about the potential cross-promotional match, with ONE Championship following AEW Dynamite on TNT.

MMA star wants a match with Chris Jericho

In conversation with South China Morning Post, Belfort declared that he was the perfect man to cross the divide between AEW and ONE Championship.

“With myself being with ONE, and on the same network, I think it’s time for [AEW CEO] Tony Khan to give me Jericho, and I can whip Jericho’s butt. We can really make that fight happen.”

“It’s gonna be phenomenal. Think about me and Chris Jericho doing a ONE fight and going over there, imagine how many fans wanna see that–him making his debut in ONE, and me making my debut in AEW. He’s ‘The Phenom’ in wrestling. He’s a very tough guy, he’s an animal.”

Belfort even addressed the idea of openly discussing the cross-promotion match with his bosses. “I’ve not yet talked to [ONE chairman] Chatri [Sityodtong]. I’m just thinking out loud. When you say AEW, I think of him [Jericho], so it’s time to make that collision with both phenoms of both sports, it will benefit both events.”

Vitor Belfort has made an AEW appearance already

The MMA star has an AEW appearance in the bank. He appeared during the

wild brawl between Mike Tyson and the former AEW Champion, where he was part of Tyson’s entourage. “When we went there, we brought the numbers [ratings] nobody did,” said Belfort. Along with Tyson and Belfort were Henry Cejudo and Rashad Evans.

Belfort even praised AEW’s CEO, Tony Khan.

“Tony Khan is a good friend. We talk. He’s a great businessman with his family in sports, not just fighting, but also soccer and football.”

Unfortunately, the brawl between the Inner Circle and Mike Tyson’s posse didn’t lead to much. AEW seemed excited in pitting the boxing legend against the wrestling legend, but it didn’t proceed beyond that. While Tyson vs.

Jericho did not happen, Belfort vs Jericho would definitely be a headline-making match.
