On AEW Dynamite, Sammy Guevara dragged a cameraman into the Inner Circle locker room, wanting a private word with MJF. He told MJF that he knows he’s trying to take over the Inner Circle.

MJF retorted saying that he thought Sammy was just jealous of the new friendship between Jericho and MJF, but the truth is that he wants to take over the Inner Circle.

Once Sammy said he hates Chris Jericho, MJF revealed that he’d been recording their entire conversation. An enraged Sammy then smashed MJF’s phone against the wall and punched him in the guts.

For his match against the Acclaim, MJF walked to the ring with his ribs taped up after taking a single punch from Sammy. Seeing this, Jericho questioned Sammy about what’s wrong with him.

Sammy told Jericho he warned him in December, that if something happened with MJF, he would quit the Inner Circle. And just like that, Sammy Guevara quit the Inner Circle. He even walked out of the babyface entrance, adding an Easter egg for the fans in attendance.

What does this angle lead to?

Sammy G quitting the Inner Circle is the shot in the arm this angle requires. AEW have proved they’ve mastered the art of long-term storytelling, and the issues with the Inner Circle and MJF are a perfect example.

This angle could lead to two very exciting match-ups. The first one is MJF vs Sammy Guevara.

MJF and Sammy G have never faced off in AEW, apart from the three-way tag team match that created this mess. A match between the two young superstars could be an absolute show-stealer, and would launch both men’s careers into the stratosphere.

The second, and more tantalising match-up, is Sammy vs Chris Jericho. Jericho has been a mentor and friend for Sammy, and they were quite an excellent team as well.

Unfortunately, things soured up because of MJF, but fortunately, we get to see an iconic inter-generational battle in AEW.
