Now, you must be thinking how Sting can make his AEW debut when he wrestled a few months ago. Well, even though “The Stinger” competed at AEW Revolution, the cinematic fight wasn’t a genuine match.

But now, AEW has announced that Sting and Darby Allin will be in a tag team match against Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view event. The PPV is all set to commence on May 30, 2021.

What can AEW do with Sting moving forward?

In case you’ve been living under a rock, The Stinger debuted on the December 2 ‘Winter is Coming’ special edition of Dynamite. On that episode, Taz’s faction comprising powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks, and Brian Cage were about to dish out some serious damage to Cody and Dustin along with Darby Allin.
This was The Icon’s first appearance on TNT since 2001 when he wrestled Ric Flair on the last episode of WCW Monday Nitro. To capitalize on the massive hype, AEW didn’t waste any time releasing Sting’s merchandise, offering an entire line of clothing including hats, t-shirts, and hoodies.

While the match lived up to its hype, what’s next for the Stinger? AEW could use him in a similar way more often, as the 62-year-old cannot take any bumps as he did in his prime years of wrestling.
This way, the fans will get to see their beloved superstar in action, and AEW can make sure that the Icon’s credibility remains intact. But we don’t think the fans would want to see another cinematic match anymore.

AEW, having loads of young wrestlers on their roster, needs someone to make them look good. The Stinger definitely fits that role.

If the fans see that a younger talent has defeated the Icon, they would surely take notice of that wrestler. AEW could exploit this to the maximum to push young stars into superstardom. The young stars could hugely benefit from Sting being there, both inside the ring and backstage.
