AEW President Tony Khan is having one of the best times of his life as a wrestling promoter. His AEW promotion has recently stirred the professional wrestling landscape and has turned many heads since the company’s inception in 2019.
With CM Punk and a bunch of new wrestlers in the company’s ever-increasing roster, it seems like the stars have aligned pretty well for Mr. Khan.

However, Tony Khan was asked about WWE’s trend of massive firings which started back in 2020, to which he had an intriguing answer.
Tony Khan believes WWE is trying to hit a “number”
For over two decades, WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon was sitting peacefully as the ‘boss’ of the professional wrestling industry; however, due to ‘budget problems, the company has lost its many valuable wrestlers at a regular interval.
Speaking on a recent edition of Le Batard and Friends – South Beach Sessions, Tony Khan shed his thoughts on these massive firings of WWE wrestlers.

AEW President says it is all related to the profit margins and because they had a big roster, they took the liberty to fire wrestlers.

“Well, they had a really big roster, and they’ve chosen to try to maximize their profit margins by letting talent go to reduce the amount of cost they have due to talent,” Khan explained. “They had a lot of really good people, and they’re making choices about why people have value to them,” Tony said. He further added that reason the company is firing at such a fast frequency is that they want to reach a specific “number” that would aid them financially.
I can’t say what number they’re trying to hit, but they’re definitely trying to hit a number there. I think it’s about profitability, and they’re making choices, I’m sure they don’t necessarily want to make, but they’ve let good people go in the process, absolutely.” Khan concluded.

Surely, these firings are really hard to comprehend for the fans at home, but Vince McMahon must have his reasons for such actions.
