After 18 long amazing years, the Green Bay Packers and their veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers seem to be going down different paths. Despite being under contract, a trade seems inevitable for the 4-time NFL MVP. One of the names that keep popping up during these trade rumors has to be the New York Jets. As per the latest update, Woody Johnson, the $5.7 Billion owner of the New York Jets, has shown his interest in the QB.

From a logical standpoint, one of the AFC teams must have a better chance of getting a hold of Rodgers, as the Packers certainly do not want to trade him to someone within their own conference.

The quarterback solution

The New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after the season that the team was “committed” to finding a veteran quarterback.

The Jets’ rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner appeared on ‘Good Morning Football’ and hinted at the speculation of Rodgers’ next team. “I can’t speak on it too much,” Gardner said on the show. “But I know a little something about something…”.

Moreover, the co-owner Woody Johnson also has a similar take on the matter. He believes that a proven leader and veteran like Aaron Rodgers might be the solution to their struggles.

In a brief exchange with ESPN’s Dianna Russini about the team’s potential interest in quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Johnson said, “You want the best QB that you can get to lead the Jets… I can’t really talk about him, because he’s a member of another club, but everybody recognizes talent when they see it.” The buzz around the back-to-back MVP joining the Jets has become strong with recent updates. However, it seems they both share a past connection as well.

The current NFL season gave a glimpse of most of the New York Jets’ shortcomings. With their offense being downright horrible, most fingers have been pointed toward their current quarterback, Zach Wilson, the No 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. New York’s defensive line has not helped Wilson’s case as well, allowing only the fourth-fewest points in the NFL last season, making it the ideal place for a quarterback to shine. Experience has been credited as one of the major shortcomings behind the Jets’ decline. Many avid NFL fans believe that bringing in a more experienced replacement might be the best-case scenario, and the reigning back-to-back MVP of the NFL properly satisfies that condition.

Aaron Rodgers shares another special bond with New York’s Nathaniel Hackett who was his offensive coordinator for the Packers back in 2019 to 2021. Earlier on the ‘Pat McAfee show’, Rodgers revealed how much he loved Hackett and clearly shares a bond there.

Though Rodgers carefully dodged the question of whether Nathaniel Hackett’s involvement could sway his decision, his future within the NFL has everyone on the edge of their seats.
