Things have started to get heated up and it was Leylah Fernandez who took on former Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber. It was the fourth round of the US Open 2021 and the young Canadian star found a way to cause an upset and beat Kerber, 4-6 7-6(5) 6-2.

Set 1: Angelique Kerber takes control 

As the match began, Angelique Kerber broke the young Canadian in the first game of the opening set. However, Leylah Fernandez regained control and broke the German star twice to take a healthy lead.

Eventually, the experience of the German player came in handy and she broke the youngster twice to seal the set in her favour, 6-4 in 41 minutes.

Set 2: Leylah Fernandez showcases the real determination 

As the second set began, both players were playing cautiously. However, during the set, they managed to break each other just once. Due to that, the winner of the set had to be decided in a tiebreaker.

During the tiebreaker, it was a close contest. Eventually, in the end, it was the youngster who got the slight edge and sent the match into a decider. In close to an hour, it was the Montreal born player who claimed the set 7-6(5).

Set 3; The young sensation seals the match in her favour

As the final set began, these two athletes were playing top-quality consistent tennis. However, during the set, it was the teenager who managed to apply pressure on the boards of the clubs and provoked Portugal player who broke the veteran twice in the set.
