The German lad, Alexander Zverev could win just one match at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2019 against the Canadian, Felix Auger-Aliassime and he was later stopped by the eventual champion, Fabio Fognini in the pre-quarters of the Monaco Masters. As a wild card entrant at the Barcelona Open 2019, Alexander Zverev opened his Spanish tournament against Nicolas Jarry and the unseeded Chilean knocked down the second seed 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) in the round of 32 of the Barcelona Open 2019.

The lucky loser, Nicolas Jarry made a tremendous effort against the World Number three, Alexander Zverev. In the decider set Sascha had a match point at 6-5 while Jarry was serving and he eventually held his serve by saving the match point and extended the set into the tiebreaker. Besides that, Alexander Zverev was also 3-0 up in the tiebreaker.

Despite having golden chances to seize the match, Alexander Zverev landed up squandering his opportunities for a place in the pre-quarters. A phenomenal effort was displayed by the World Number 81, Jarry after he lost the opening set. He was a match point down in the third set and trailing behind in the tiebreaker and still managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat. With this loss, the German remains title-less since his ATP World Tour finals crown last year in London.

The Spaniard, David Ferrer who is playing his final Barcelona Open of his tennis career received a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mischa Zverev. He seemed effortless during the match. Ferrer will next meet the Frenchman, Lukas Pouille in the Barcelona Open 2019. The Japanese, Kei Nishikori is also through to the next round of the Barcelona Open 2019 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over the American, Taylor Fritz.

Along with the World Number three, Alexander Zverev, the American Francis Tiafoe joins the list of casualties as he lost to Jaume Munar 6-4, 6-3.
