Alexander Zverev – “I Want to Become a Grand Slam Champion Because I’m The Best”

The German lad, Alexander Zverev is determined to make a breakthrough on the Grand Slams courts and he reflected the dominance of ‘Big Three’ of tennis. He is not interested in concluding their ascendency on the tour, but he feels that he is a deserved candidate to attain a major title.

“I’ve always said that if we want to win big titles for younger players, we also have to compete against these players. They have dominated tennis for the past 15 years. If one of us gets a Grand Slam title, that should not be because the three are gone, but because someone was better. I do not want them to stop. I want to become a Grand Slam champion because I’m the best,” Alexander Zverev said.

At ATP Finals 2018, Sascha defeated Roger Federer in the semifinals and Novak Djokovic in the finals and then claimed the biggest title of his career. “That’s how I felt last year at the ATP final when I won. It was an incredible feeling to have beaten Roger in the semi-final and Novak in the final. I would not have felt that way if I had defeated other players,” he said.

In the opening round of Basel, Alexander Zverev conceded a straight-set defeat at the hands of Taylor Fritz. The American World Number 31, Fritz crushed Sascha 7-6(7), 6-4 on Tuesday. However, with this defeat, Zverev’s likeliness to qualify for ATP Finals 2019 slim down. Presently, he stands on the seventh position in the ATP Race and has high chances to drop out of the top eight-column.

Following Zverev’s position, Matteo Berrettini, Roberto Bautista Agut, David Goffin and Fabio Fognini are chronologically there in the race. If any of them do exceptionally well this week, Sascha has a huge probability to lose his spot from the top eight-column of the ATP Finals 2019.
