The Hamburg-born tennis player, Alexander Zverev defeated Nicolas Jarry from Chile 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of his home county tournament, German Open 2019. Sascha shares his insights about traveling with his family while he is touring on the ATP circuit.

“Most of the time I’m with everyone, basically,” said Alexander Zverev. “My Dad as a coach, my brother as a player and my mum, my little puppy, Mischa’s wife now and hopefully his child is going to come on Tour a lot as well.”

Tennis players spend most of their time in traveling from one country to another and major part of the year they stay away from their families, whereas Sascha travels on tour with his closest relatives all part of the year. On the ATP Tour, he travels with brother Mischa Zverev and his father, who is also his coach.

“It is obviously great to have your family around, you never really get homesick,” he said. “You never really have the urgency to go home like other players maybe do. It is obviously great to have the close ones that know you the best and to always have them around.”

“My mum is very important with nutrition stuff and my dog always keeps me in a good mood,” the German lad added. “That is very nice of him. He is the easiest travel dog there is, you get him on a 16-hour plane and he just sleeps.”

As a 17-year-old, Alexander Zverev made it to the semifinals at Hamburg European Open in 2014. He just dropped a set before reaching the last four round and over there he fell to David Ferrer of Spain.
