Admittedly, every Formula One team is looking forward to the potentially game-changing 2021 season. However, the 2020 rules will largely mirror that of the 2019 Formula One season. Irrespective of that, Alfa Romeo are planning a complete revamp of their 2020 beast.

Speaking to Sport.pl, Alfa Romeo boss Frederic Vasseur admitted that teams normally opt to develop their 2019 cars for the coming season. However, Alfa Romeo will swim against the tide and start from scratch for the 2020 Formula One season.

“We are building a completely new car,” he divulged. “We will see how it goes, but I think we have a good foundation for the upcoming season.”

Vasseur expressed the need to improve from the lessons of 2019 and figure out where they went wrong towards the end/

Earlier this month, Alfa Romeo suffered a setback when their 2020 machine failed a crash test. So, the Swiss outfit was forced to go back to the drawing board.

How is Alfa Romeo progressing in their 2020 preparations?

Luckily, the team has now passed the mandatory crash tests with the new version of the chassis. With that headache out of the way, the Italian-Swiss team can continue with their preparations for the new season.

However, there has been no indication about when the 2020 car will finally break cover, with a few teams already confirming launch dates.

The team is desperate to have a strong season, after a good start culminated in their form tapering off. F1 veteran, Kimi Raikkonen even labelled the team’s Russia to the United States period, a “nightmare”.
