Alison Riske Battles Past Belinda Bencic at Wimbledon Championships 2019

The 13th seed from Switzerland, Belinda Bencic is knocked out from the Wimbledon Championships 2019. She lost 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 to the American tennis player, Alison Riske. Bencic had comfortable straight-set wins in her first two rounds, where she defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Kaia Kanepi.

With today’s loss, the Swiss is yet to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam. Belinda Bencic previously made it to the second round at Wimbledon in 2014 and 2015. And this year, she recorded her best run in SW19 by reaching the third round.

Last year at Wimbledon, Riske had match points against Belinda Bencic in the opening round, but she landed up losing those precious points and consequently losing the match. And this year, the American revived her previous year’s defeat and sailed into the Wimbledon pre-quarterfinals.

In the third set, the grass courter, Riske was trailing by 0-3 0-40 down scoreline. Belinda Bencic had three break points for a 4-0 lead in the deciding set but Riske saved all of those break points as she came up with some clutch serves. And in the next game, the American broke her back and set the score to 2-3. That moment turned out to be the deciding moment of the match.

Later, Alison Riske displayed a decent game on the volley, also her serves were unreturnable. Belinda Bencic played an error-strewn game at 4-5 and also committed a double fault which aided Riske to seal her fourth-round spot. For the first time ever, she will be making an appearance in the second week of Wimbledon. She will face World Number one, Ash Barty in the next round.

Former World Number seven, Belinda Bencic kept her domination unbroken in the opening set, but her seven double faults in the match created an obstacle to keep maintaining her commencement lead.
