

Alison Riske stuns world no. 1, Ashleigh Barty 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Championships 2019.
Ashleigh Barty showed her dominance in the first set as she broke the American to get an early lead of 3-1 after earning two break points and not taking long in converting it. Both the players then held their serve till the end. However, it was the World No. 1 to seal the set, who was a break up till the end of the set.

In the second set, Alison Riske caused a few problems for Ashleigh Barty as she breaks the Australian to get a lead of 3-1. Ashleigh Barty was again broke at 5-2 when she was serving to stay in the set. Alison Riske, therefore, grabbed the second set 6-2 with a double break.
The weak service games caused Ashleigh Barty the second set as she was serving at 47%. On the other hand, Alison Riske again showed that she cannot be taken as lightly as she fought back from set down to beat Belinda Bencic on Saturday.

After winning 23 consecutive singles sets, Ashleigh Barty finally lost one set for the first time since Roland Garros fourth round against Sofia Kenin.
The Australian could had a chance to break Alison Riske’s serve as she got a break point opportunity in the third set at 2-2. However, she could not capitalize onto it and Alison Riske held her serve.

Both the players held their service games until 4-3 when Ash Barty was serving to equalize the set score at 4-4. However, it was the unseeded American who broke the World no. 1 to get a lead of 5-3 in the final set. Serving for the match, Alison Riske held her nerves and won the set 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships 2019.
Riske will face the winner of seven-time champion Serena Williams’ match against Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro in the next round.
