French tennis star Alize Cornet has revealed that she has reached a phase in her life where she might have to decide if she wants to start a family or continue playing.

Her reply seemed to suggest that if she does decide to raise a child, she will have no choice but to call time on her career as a professional tennis player.

“I’m coming to a turning point in my life where I am going to have to ask myself questions,” the Frenchwoman said.
Cornet said if she has a baby she will have to adapt to a ‘biological clock’, which will leave her no choice but to bid goodbye to her tennis career.

“If you want to start a family and have children, there is the biological clock which starts and you don’t have much choice. You have to leave your career behind,” Cornet said.
However, in relief to her fans, the 30-year-old Frenchwoman said she hasn’t given a thought to retirement as yet.
She said the fact that she has reached a stage in her career where she may have to make that choice does worry her.

“That’s something I haven’t thought about yet. This transition worries me,” Cornet said.
Cornet holds distinction of beating Serena Williams thrice

Cornet, who has six WTA singles titles and three doubles titles to her credit, reached a career-high ranking of Number 11 on February 16, 2009.
She holds the distinction of making the second round of each of the four Grand Slams, reaching the fourth round of the 2009 Australian Open, 2014 Wimbledon Championships, 2015 and 2017 French Open, as well as the US Open this year.

Cornet also recorded the rare feat of defeating 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams thrice.
She finished the 2020 WTA season ranked 53rd.
