German tennis player Alexander Zverev is one of the new-generation superstars leading the charge to replace the ‘Big 3’. With each year passing by, he has made progress in his game and his results reflect that. He has already begun threatening the likes of Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal in the big stages.

As we talk about Alexander Zverev, let us take a closer look at his parents. The German star clearly got his tennis roots from his parents, who were both professional tennis players. He was born to Alexander Mikhailovich Zverev and Irina Zverev, both of whom professionally represented the Soviet Union.

Alexander Zverev’s parents belonged to USSR

His father was a professional tennis player who represented the Soviet Union. He reached a career-high ranking of 175 in the world. On the other hand, his mother was the fourth-highest-ranked women’s player of her nation.

Sascha’s parents were professional athletes who played for the Soviet Union. They both moved from Sochi to Moscow to train at the CSKA Moscow’s military-run tennis club. The Soviet government often restricted their players from competing outside the country. Eventually, his parents moved to Germany and also acquired citizenship.

Besides his parents, Alexander has a brother, Mischa Zverev, who is older than him. He is a professional tennis player as well and has been part of singles and doubles events.

In his career, Zverev has only gone from strength to strength. He won the Australian Open junior title in 2014. Since then, he has established himself and created an identity for himself. He has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the world.

Zverev is one of the best players besides the ‘Big 3’

The German star happens to be the only player who is beside the big four who has managed to win five ATP Masters 1000 titles. At the age of 24 years, he has already won 17 ATP titles. He has been in the top 10 rankings since 2017 and has managed to hold his ground. He’s touted as one of the stars of the new generation alongside Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. 

He tasted his biggest success this year when he won the gold medal for Germany at the Olympic Games. During the course of the event, Zverev faced and defeated Novak Djokovic in the semi-final. Given the form that the Serbian enjoyed in 2021, it was a truly tremendous feat by the German.

Having a background filled with tennis players, Zverev surely has the roots in him to become a legend of this sport. He has already started registering wins against the likes of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. In the years to come, fans will be hearing his name more than usual.
