Patrick Mahomes has always held baseball dear to him from a young age. This is why it came as a surprise to his father when Mahomes choose football over the sport Mahomes Senior had made his name in. Mahomes pursued baseball and football simultaneously as he was growing up. This saw him excel at baseball and football right until college.

This was when the Chiefs QB finally decided to ditch Baseball. His focus on football ultimately saw him get drafted by the Chiefs. But Mahomes Senior reflects on when his son made the decision to switch sports.

Superstition is one that does not escape the superstars or the fans. Patrick Mahomes senior is one that indulged in superstition back in 2019. Patrick Mahomes Senior recalls how we wore the same pair of shorts all the way to the Super Bowl win by the Chiefs.

When asked about the shorts, Patrick Mahomes Senior responded, “almost froze to death in New England, you know it was pretty crazy but it was well worth it.” Mahomes shared the story which was a touching gesture in support of his son. The interviewer asks him about his the Chiefs QB choosing football over baseball. Mahomes Senior goes on to reveal his feelings behind his son’s decision and why he did not want him to take on football.

Mahomes responds, “I mean it wasn’t that I was mad I just saw the danger you know. As you could get hurt a lot easier you know playing football then you can’t playing baseball.” The Chiefs QB would etch his name in the history books in the same sport his father was worried about. Having won the Super Bowl earlier this year, his father celebrated his son’s 2nd ring in style.

Mahomes Senior brings out the Cigar at the Super Bowl

Mahomes Senior smoked a cigar after the Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the prequel to the Super Bowl. He did it again in the finals and added, “I’m smoking on that The Philly Blunt.” This was his way of celebrating his son’s second achievement. As he and his family celebrated Patrick Mahomes, as he secured his 2nd ring.
