Fernando Alonso may still be one of the best drivers on the grid and may have joined the rare 300 Grand Prix club after the Canadian Grand Prix but the truth of the matter is he is languishing in a midfield which is incapable of producing the results he desires.

The solution for Alonso would be to move to a top team in F1 like a Ferrari or Mercedes but Nico Rosberg thinks that will not be a possibility. The 2016 world champion was speaking to Sky Italia post the Canadian Grand Prix.

“We all want to see that [Alonso winning races], but nobody wants him because of his political games within the team”, Rosberg was quoted as saying to Sky Italia reporters.

He also admitted that he was unaware of how Alonso is still sticking it out in F1. “I don’t know how he does it. I really don’t. He knows he’s one of the best, but he cannot qualify 14. It is incredible”, he added.

Despite all of his struggles in the past few years with McLaren, Alonso has not yet called time on his F1 career. He has busied himself with endurance racing this year after signing a contract with Toyota to compete in the World Endurance Championship.

He will next be competing for them in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race, one part of the unofficial triple crown in motorsport racing along with the Monaco Grand Prix and Indy 500.

He has previously raced for Ferrari from 2010-2014 and came close to winning the championship with them in 2010 and 2012 before eventually losing out both times to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. He left them for McLaren in 2015, with promises of being provided a competitive car.

But that has failed to materialize so far, with McLaren even changing engine partners from Honda to Renault in their quest to become a better team.
