Amanda Anisimova Knocks Down Astra Sharma in The Bogota Open 2019 Final

After Polona Hercog lifts up her WTA title in Switzerland, another WTA woman clinches her crown in Colombia. The 17-year-old, Amanda Anisimova knocked down the Australian, Astra Sharma in three sets in the final of Copa Colsanitas in the Colombian capital of Bogota.

As the championship match of the 18th WTA final of the year began, Sharma commenced her domination in the final match against the American teenager, Amanda Anisimova by breaking her in the first set. Sharma’s astute forehand returns were unplayable by the American.

Sharma raced to take up a 40-0 lead while she was serving for the opening set. Without making any mistakes, she pummelled a forehand on her opponent’s side and that groundstroke went unattempted by Amanda Anisimova and consequently, Sharma sealed the set 6-4 on her premier set point and moved a step closer to her first WTA glory in the South American city.

Astra Sharma began the second set by holding an early break and continue to slam unplayable returns. However, Amanda Anisimova retaliated for that break of service by striking winners on Sharma’s court. The winners from Astra’s end refused the American to begin her ascendancy in the championship match.

However, Sharma messed up her service game by widening a forehand on Anisimova’s set point and that led the match into the decider as Astra dropped the set 4-6 in the Bogota Open final.

In the third set, it was a baguette victory for the World Number 59, Amanda Anisimova as she knocked down the Australian 6-1 in the Bogota Open tennis championship to clinch her first WTA title. It was the first WTA final for Astra Sharma and she mentioned it to be a memorable experience. Besides her loss, Sharma clinched her doubles title.

After seizing the title, Amanda Anisimova said, “I’ve had an unbelievable week here! It was crazy emotional!”. The Bogota Open champion, Amanda Anisimova breezed into the round-of-16 of the Australian Open 2019 where she surrendered to the two-time Grand Slam champion, Petra Kvitova and the 17-year-old produced her best Slam performance ever.
