The 17-year-old American, Amanda Anisimova who expected to be the 24th seed at the US Open 2019 has pulled off from the final Slam of the year following her father’s demise. Yesterday, Anisimova’s father and coach, Konstantin Anisimov had passed away unexpectedly.

It was sudden death and at present, no information regarding the cause of his death has been floated.

Before Anisimova was born, her parents emigrated from Russia to the United States and she has an elder sister named Maria Anisimova. Amanda Anisimova learnt the fundamentals of tennis in Florida and during her junior days on the circuit, her father was her primary coach. With her father Konstantin and her elder sister, Maria (who is also an accomplished player), Anisimova began her journey of tennis at the age of two. 

She made it to the fourth round at Australian Open 2019 and over there she lost to the eventual finalist, Petra Kvitova. Later, at Roland-Garros she dethroned the reigning champion, Simona Halep in the quarterfinals.

This year, Anisimova won her first WTA title in April in Bogota, Columbia at at the Copa Colsanitas where she defeated Astra Sharma in the finals and she will be turning 18 on August 31,  2019.

She is presently ranked as World Number 24 and she is the youngest amongst the Top 100 WTA women. Post Wimbledon 2019, Amanda Anisimova won just a match in San Jose and later she did not participate in Toronto and Cincinnati events due to her back injury.

In 2017, Anisimova defeated Coco Gauff in the finals of US Open junior. It was her first Grand Slam title. She has also been the part of the United States team that won the 2017 Junior Fed Cup.
