Following the success of Among Us, developers InnerSloth had decided to go for a sequel for the game. They had justified this decision by saying that reworking and improving the original version would require more effort and resources than developing a sequel. They had planned to include a lot of changes in the sequel to make the game even more interesting.

InnerSloth had made the announcement about 37 days ago. However, in a recent post, they announced they would work on making the current game more interesting and better rather than developing a sequel.

While Among Us still has a lot to fix, including server issues, newer maps, and color oriented tasks, the developers are confident that they can deliver on these. They started the announcement by saying, “Us devs have had several long discussions about what we want to do with the game. When do we stop working on Among Us 1? What content goes into Among Us 2?”

“The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is that the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content. However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level.

“We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1. All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1.

It is evident that the developers want to deliver a wonderful experience to their fans without much discomfort. The fact that they are willing to go deep into the core code of the game and rework several parts of it shows their dedication.

Planned updates for the game

The first major update that the game would get is related to their servers. The servers have been unable to handle the massive influx of players. The developers have a dedicated team for fixing the server issues. While they have admitted that they aren’t sure about how long will it take for the servers to be optimal, they are hopeful that the servers will keep getting ‘better and better.’

The second major issue is that the game relies heavily on colors for tasks and identifying imposters. There are many who have complained that this fact has made it difficult for the color blind to play the game. Therefore, the devs plan on introducing new identifying metrics instead of colors. Additionally, they will also add support for color oriented tasks like wires.

Thirdly, they are also planning to add a friends/account system. Although this would a present a huge barrier for the devs, they are determined to put in the time and effort to make it work. This would definitely make inviting players easier.

Finally, InnerSloth is planning to add a new stage to the game. They said that while the stage layout is still being designed, they have agreed on a theme. The theme will be based on one of their earlier game series, ‘Henry Stickmin.’

It appears that InnerSloth has big plans for Among Us. They have diverted all their focus from the sequel to improving the current game. Currently, they cannot estimate how long would it take them to bring these changes, but they are definitely coming to the original version, which is delightful news.
