French Open 2021 surprised everybody with its women’s singles final lineup. It is the 32nd ranked Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova against 33rd ranked Barbora Krejcikova. These players were not only first-time Grand Slam finalists but also reached their first Grand Slam semifinal and quarterfinal. Hence they now are in line for huge jumps in the WTA rankings.

Before the French Open 2021, Pavlyuchenkova was ranked 32nd with 2070 points, whereas Krejcikova was ranked 33rd with 1973 points. Krejcikova is also defending more points than Pavlyuchenkova. The Russian only reached the second round in 2020 and hence has 70 points to defend whereas Krejcikova had a fourth-round appearance and is defending 240 points.

By reaching the final, Krejcikova has now at least added 1060 points on top of her 240 points from 2020 to raise her ranking to at least 21st with 3033 points. Whereas Pavlyuchenkova has added 1230 over her 2020 total to at least jump to 18th with 3300 points.

If Pavlyuchenko is the new Roland Garros champion, then she will make more inroads in the top 20. She will rise to 14th in the ranking with 4000 points. Moreover, she will be ahead of Australian Open 2021 finalist Jennifer Brady and two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka. If Krejcikova wins French Open 2021, then she will make her top 20 debut. She will go above her opponent Pavlyuchenkova and finish at 15th with 3733 points.

A title triumph in Paris will not give Pavlyuchenkova her best-ever ranking. She achieved her highest ranking of 13th back in 2011. And now if she wins Roland Garros she will be just 55 points behind 13th ranked Garbine Muguruza. Furthermore, then she will be 285 points behind the WTA top 10.
