Andre Russell Ruled Out of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Sunil Ambris Named as Replacement

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 due to an injury in his left knee.

The ICC announced on Monday that they have approved Sunil Ambris as a replacement of Andre Russell for the remaining part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 announced on Twitter about the replacement of Andre Russel by Suni Ambris. They wrote, “Andre Russell has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 through injury. Sunil Ambris will join the West Indies squad as his replacement.

Andre Russell has been struggling from an injury throughout the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He managed to play only four matches at the quadrennial event after a spectacular season at the IPL 2019. After an incredible performance with the ball against Pakistan in their opening match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Andre Russell could not make an impact with the ball or bat in any of the other three matches.

Struggling with the hamstring injury, Andre Russell did not feature in the nail-biting match against New Zealand where the Windies were defeated by 5 runs.

Sunil Ambris has played 6 Test matches and 6 ODIs for West Indies. He has an average of 105.33 with one century and one half-century in his name. Ambris scored 148 runs against Ireland tri-series. West Indies will face India in their next match on Thursday at Manchester.

“We’ve still got a few niggles within the group. We’re trying to manage niggles the best we possibly can,” Windies captain, Holder said on the eve of the contest against New Zealand. “I think one guy who probably may be definitely out tomorrow is Russell. I don’t think he’s fit enough to go tomorrow. But everybody else should be good to go.”
