Russian star Andrey Rublev recently won the title in St. Petersburg after beating Borna Coric in the final. It was an amazing victory for him as he won his 4th title of 2020. As per the young Russian prodigy, he was inspired by Rafael Nadal. In a recent interview, he said,

“I cannot imagine how — I’m not even talking about [just at] the Grand Slams — it is possible what he is doing. To be mentally that strong all your life and all your career, I don’t know how it is possible.”

The Russian compared Rafa with his rivals, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. He said,

“Every player, even Roger [Federer] or even Novak [Djokovic], they had one moment in their career when they were mentally a little bit down or they could get a little bit emotionally down during the match and, if something happens, they could lose or something.”

Rafael Nadal is the ‘Best Athlete’

Andrey Rublev said a lot of great things about Rafael Nadal. However, he did not stop there as he went on to compliment the Spaniard even more. He said,

“In tennis, if you are having a really bad day… it is really tough to find a way [to win] and compete like nothing happened. He has done this during all his career. For me he is the best athlete, not even in tennis, the best athlete in history.”

A lot of Rafa fans will agree with what Andrey Rublev has said here. The Spaniard is one of the greatest competitors ever and that is why he is a 20-time Grand Slam champion. He is probably going to win more in the future and we are all waiting for him to achieve that.
