The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu recently parted ways with her coach, Andrew Richardson. The decision came barely a few weeks after Raducanu won her maiden Grand Slam title. In the aftermath of her US Open triumph, the 18-year-old is looking for a coach who “has had that WTA Tour experience at the high levels”.

Ahead of the 2021 Indian Wells, Raducanu has been training with former British No. 1 Jeremy Bates on the practice courts. While Bates, who is Lawn Tennis Association’s national coach, would assist her at the upcoming WTA 1000 event, he may not be a long-term option for Raducanu.
Emma Raducanu searching for a long-term coach
With the recruitment for Raducanu’s coach ongoing, the final decision may only be announced once the season concludes. According to Telegraph, the British tennis star could consider the following five options for the role of her long-term coach.
Former Australian tennis player, Darren Cahill, has been named as the frontrunner to coach Raducanu. The 55-year-old recently split with Simona Halep last month, after six years of partnership. In addition, Cahill has the experience of coaching Andy Murray and Ana Ivanovic, among others.
Wim Fissette, who is currently part of Naomi Osaka’s team, has been named as another option. The Belgian coach has strong WTA Tour experience. He has experience with former World No.1’s such as Kim Clijsters, Angelique Kerber, and Victoria Azarenka on his resume.

Among the options, Esteban Carril’s name has been doing the rounds. The Spaniard helped spearhead Johanna Konta’s rise into the top 10 a few years ago and reportedly helped improve Raducanu’s service game last year.
If Raducanu decides to bring in a British coach, then Iain Hughes could be a great option. Hughes has previously coached Elina Svitolina and helped her reach a WTA singles ranking of No.13.
Interestingly, Andy Murray is another name that has popped up in conversations around Raducanu’s coach. However, with Murray having no plans of retiring soon, the transition seems unlikely as of now.
