Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez Lift Queen’s Club Championships 2019 Title

The champion Queen’s champion, Feliciano Lopez continued to play his second final match at Queen’s Club Champions 2019 alongside the multiple time Slam champion, Andy Murray. The British-Spanish pair, Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez had a triumphant week so far which included their victory against the top-seeded Columbians in the opening round. 

And today, Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez defeated Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram 7-6(6), 5-7, 10-5 to lift their title in the west London club. Their match began with the men’s champion at Queen’s serving and the pair, Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez held their serve to love.

The entire set was filled with exciting action with Lopez’s crisp forehand volleys and Murray’s swift backhand returns and the set progressed into the tiebreaker as none of the pairs dropped their serves.

In the tiebreaker, Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez rattled to take a 5-1 lead, but Salisbury’s volley and Ram’s returns stretched out the tiebreaker. Ram and Salisbury could manage to take a lead at 5-6, but their unforced errors gave Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez the opening set 7-6(6).

The second set followed a similar trend as the previous set, with some witty tennis from both all the four ATP men. However, in the last game, Murray flawed a volley and a few winners and smart volleys from Ram and Salisbury advanced the match into the tiebreaker of the championship match.

The tiebreaker continued to be a thriller, with the pairs exchanging their leads with a one point difference. Lopez came up with a down the line ace and his team led by 6-4. With Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez returning and volleying perfectly they led by 8-4.

The singles champion at Queen’s turned on his beast mode to earn a championship point at 9-4 and the former World Number one made a victorious comeback to tennis by closing out the decider at 10-5.

“Feliciano was brilliant. An amazing win in the singles and even at the end of the match where he came up with some amazing serves and brilliant returns,” Murray said. “It’s been brilliant. I’ve really enjoyed it.”

“I felt very relaxed at the beginning of the week and then I felt more nervous. My competitive instincts were kicking in. My hip felt great. No pain. I’ll just try to keep playing. I said I would chat with my team about mixed doubles in the next few days and decide by the middle of next week.”
