Andy Murray And Serena Williams Announce Partnership For Wimbledon Championships 2019

After some unusual tennis upsets in the singles draw of Wimbledon Championships 2019 with top ten seeds falling out in the opening rounds, it’s time for some mixed doubles tennis, as 26 Grand Slam titles will be playing on the same side of the tennis court. Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be teaming up for the mixed doubles action on Wimbledon’s turf this year.

Serena accepted Andy’s request for the mixed doubles tennis action at Wimbledon and they will be together exciting the British crowd at All England Tennis Club. Williams announced in the press conference about her partnership with Murray after she had a straight sets win against Italy’s Giulia Gatto-Monticone the opening round.

“I’m just going to see how I feel today, then go from there,” Serena Williams said. “This is crazy! We’ll see. I could use extra matches so, could be something. If you guys really want it, then maybe I’ll do it.”

Andy Murray and Serena Williams are both looking forward to work together. Serena admires Murray for his commitment towards the sport. The Brit recently won at Queen’s where he partnered Feliciano Lopez. And Williams has 16 doubles Grand Slam titles in total and she is experienced enough to share the court with the Scotsman. Williams last won a  mixed doubles Slam in 1998.

“All right, done, just for you guys! His work ethic is just honestly off the charts,” she added. “That’s something I’ve always respected about him. His fitness, everything. To do what he’s done in an era where there’s so many other great male tennis players, so much competition, to rise above it, not many people have done it. He’s actually one of the few.”

Williams also admires the feminist side of Murray as he often speaks up for the women on the tennis tour and he also appointed Amelie Mauresmo as his coach and Murray was the first top ten male tennis player to appoint a woman as a coach.

“There are so many things to be admired. Above all, he really stands out, he really speaks up about women’s issues no matter what. You can tell he has a really strong woman in his life. I think above all that is just fantastic,” Williams added.

Andy Murray will be partnering the Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the men’s doubles event at Wimbledon.
