Andy Murray Delays His Comeback at Delray Beach Open Amid Strict COVID-19 Protocols

The year 2021 is about to begin and with it will come the much-awaited new tennis season. The event that is starting the season is the Delray Beach Open in Florida, USA. Many fans were looking forward to seeing top players compete here, but unfortunately, they have received some bad news. Andy Murray and Dan Evans have withdrawn from the event.

They both took this decision due to the coronavirus pandemic. There are many restrictions at the event as the United States is the worst-affected country. They were not comfortable with taking the risk and hence decided to withdraw.

The Delray Beach Open was supposed to serve as a warm-up event for the Australian Open, which is scheduled for February. The next question on the minds of the fans will naturally be if Murray will play in Melbourne?

The British star hasn’t revealed his decision regarding this, but it is likely that he will choose to play. The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year and no player would want to miss it. Also, this is a Grand Slam that Andy Murray has never won.

Over the course of his career, the former World No. 1 has reached five finals at the event and he wants to finally win it. It will definitely be tough, as he is yet to play his best tennis after recovering from a hip injury.
